How the Lot Size Calculator works
Every Indian IPO defines a minimum lot size — the smallest number of shares a retail investor can apply for in a single bid. SEBI rules require that the minimum application value fall in the range of ₹14,000 to ₹15,000, so lot sizes typically come out to between 10 and 100 shares depending on the issue price. Retail investors can apply for up to ₹2 lakh worth (roughly 13 lots at the minimum), and sNII applications start from ₹2 lakh upwards.
This calculator takes three inputs — your budget, the upper price band per share, and the lot size — and tells you exactly how many full lots you can apply for, the total application amount, the minimum one-lot cost, and any remaining balance. It saves you from manually calculating category boundaries when you're deciding whether to apply as Retail (under ₹2 lakh) or sNII (₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh) to target a higher allotment probability.
For HNI investors, pair this tool with the HNI Funding Cost Calculator to work out the interest cost on leveraged IPO applications. Retail investors targeting multiple lots should also check the Allotment Probability Calculator because retail allotment is a lottery and the chance of getting all the applied lots is rarely 100%.
Disclaimer: Always apply at the cut-off price to maximise allotment chances and bid only the number of lots you can afford to block. This tool is for educational purposes only.
